Your Brand
A brand is the proprietary visual, emotional, rational, and cultural image associated with a company or a product. The purpose of having people remember the brand name and have positive associations with that brand is to make their product selection easier and enhance the value and satisfaction they get from the product.

A Business Identity is the tool used to carry your brand through all aspects of your business. The complete professional image that a business wishes to project to make it recognizable and distinct. A successful business identity is consistently carried through all aspects of a company’s access to the public, customers, and potential customers: print media, advertisements, website, signage, etc.

Design Parameters

There are three important parameters for logo design:

1. Simplicity

Your goal in having a logo is to begin to “brand” your company. Branding is done through providing an image that is as easily recognizable as a name. A simple logo requires less “thought” from your customers. A simple logo can and should inspire a sense of understanding. Complex and overly colorful logos can inadvertently confuse your customers before they even get started.

Simple types of logos include: Text Only, Symbol, and Combination.

2. Color

The color of your logo should arouse the same feelings you wish your products to instill. As a general rule, a logo should not contain more than 4 colors. Many times even a black and white image is all that is necessary to achieve the desired response to your image.

3. Recognizability

Your logo should be unique, most importantly to avoid any trademark or copyright infringements, but also to help in the process of branding your company. The easier to recognize your logo, the easier it is to remember what it stands for. Eventually, upon success, the symbolism matters less than the recognition (example: McDonald’s “golden arches” began as a symbol of the arch shaped sides of the restaurants, however many of the restaurants no longer have the arch shape).

While having an elaborate hand drawn illustration* may seem to “fit” your image, it is much more difficult to brand your products with that type of illustration as your logo.

*Hand drawn illustrations such as cartoons, and caricatures are charged at a different rate, due to the additional time requirements.

Color Space

Color SpaceColor plays an integral part in how we react to things both emotionally and physically. Understanding what colors can do will help you to attract your target market more effectively.

Color can cause a visitor/customer to pass by your business, or leave your website altogether. For this reason, deciding on a color scheme for your business image is a very important first step.

BOLD

Warm colors such as red and orange are typically associated with boldness and strength. In web design, black can also trigger a feeling of strength.

PEACEFUL

Cool colors in the blue family conjure feelings of peace and calm. Purples are considered playful.

PROSPEROUS

Green and shades of it, cause most people to think of money, good health, nature, and/or prosperity.

PROFESSIONAL

Muted primary colors such as red, navy, or green along with black and dark gray convey a sense of professionalism.
You should avoid overuse of colors that cause a negative reaction such as bright (neon) purples, pinks, and yellows. Unless you are looking for a specific reaction, avoid using these as the main colors on your website.

Where to Begin

You’re given special one-on-one treatment every step of the way, from the initial consultation to the final logo concept, you’ll know that your ideas matter most. You’ll start the process with a questionnaire, to help me understand what you are looking for (and sometimes it ends up helping YOU understand, as well!), then we’ll move on to some first draft concepts.

Once your project is completed, you’ll receive both a high resolution printable version and a web version of your final design, all for one price.

Logo Design projects can typically be completed within a two week time frame. Project time can be affected by the number of revisions, communications, and other factors.

*A concept is simply an Individual Design. Presented to you as a ‘Draft’.
**A revision is a slight change of a draft (color, shape, font, etc.). NOTE: a completely new concept is not considered to be a revision.
